Hi All, "Smiley's" sister here. Due to limited internet, she sends me email updates as she can. Here is the latest updates. Enjoy 😊
Hey so I am coming up on two weeks in Ghana!!!! I can't imagine leaving after only two weeks, because I only just got familiar with every thing and everyone! I am SO thankful to have 7weeks at least with them! I have a language teacher his name is Emmanuel and is one of the caretakers here at the home! Today I have been learning a song in Chee!
They all seem very pleased with my efforts! Emmanuel said today that he is understanding my English better now than when I first came. I laughed cause today when I was playing Tenzie with the children they were all talking at once to me and I said, hold it I Speak US English not Ghana English, slow down. Lol! The children call me Auntie Jamie! Anyone, I understand, who is old enough to be your parent or older is Auntie or Uncle.
I have gone to the Agape church both weekends and on Wednesday and the messages have been really good!
I'm sure when I come home I will have quite a culture shock! When we go to town we ride a taxi or a trotro (small bus) and usually the children sit on a bigger child's lap! And then the traffic is so amusing, it is every man for themselves and wow I really think that I will miss watching how the drivers maneuver in traffic! They seem to communicate with other drivers and so it is not like you are "the only person" on the road! Then there is the people who will walk around in traffic selling stuff: drinks, snacks, shoes, cloths/towels, toilet paper. And all the street markets along the road, there is always something to see!
Then there is the landscape....it is beautiful. And the storms are awesome and I SO love to watch one roll in! The evenings are peaceful and there is a nice breeze, I enjoy sitting out and just taking it all in.
Today the children and I were looking at the ants and I marvel at how large they are. Then I got talking to them about snow. And we actually went and got some "snow" out of the freezer and had a very mini snow ball fight! I wish they could experience snow for real!
Today I had a lesson in laundering!!! I'm good for a beginner, lol! I decided I will not wear my blue jeans in Ghana as long as I have to hand wash them!
Then I got to work and sing with three of the children in the kitchen, cleaning up! They showed me how to use a hand broom, too! 😉
I also got to go to the mall and shop for the first time in Ghana!!!! It was a nice mall with some really nice stores.
Saturday the boys played soccer (or foot ball as they call it), with another children's home, an hour away. And they won!!!
The Class with the children in K4 is getting better every day. I can understand their restlessness. At four I'm sure it would have been next to impossible to keep me still...it is still hard! 😉 They are soooooo cute!
Today I was able to take snack break with my two sponsored children. We went and swung on the swings on the play ground. They are both SO sweet!
Got to go! I'm having a great time!
